Islamabad High Court: Parliamentary panel to meet today

Committee to discuss recommendations made by judicial commission.

ISLAMABAD:
The parliamentary committee on the appointment of judges will meet today (Wednesday) over the decision to select a chief justice for the Islamabad High Court (IHC).

The committee will discuss the recommendations made by the judicial commission. On December 4, the judicial commission, headed by the chief justice of Pakistan had nominated Justice Iqbal Hameedur Rehman’s for the position of IHC CJ. The committee will also discuss the names of two other judges. The IHC was formally restored on Monday after 16 months.


It was initially established by former president Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf in 2008 but its establishment was declared void by  the Supreme Court. It was re-established after the 18th amendment was passed.
