KARACHI:

The traffic police have written to Sindh IG Ghulam Haider Jamali seeking separate police stations in all districts of the city. According to sources at the traffic police department, the district police don't take the traffic police seriously and hence their working is adversely affected.

Speaking to The Express Tribune, Traffic DIG Amir Ahmed Shaikh said that separate police stations must be provided to them for the registration of fatal and non-fatal accident cases, proper investigations and registration of FIRs and to detain the driver. According to him, Sections 279 and 99 of the motor vehicle ordinance grant them such powers.

The DIG was of the opinion that cases of encroachments causing obstruction for road users must also be registered at traffic police stations.
