It wasn’t a hijacking: Man taken into custody for raising false alarm

The man, who had sent an erroneous text message to his brother about the kidnapping of a bus travelling from Faisalabad to Multan on Tuesday, was arrested late at night and sent to Kehna police station, Khanewal.
Tanvir had sent his brother a text message saying that the bus he was travelling in had been hijacked. The bus had left Faisalabad for Multan at 7:20pm on Tuesday. The bus driver told Katcha Khuh police that near Dijkot, a large and heavy rock-like object had come flying at the bus and hit the windscreen, which had gotten cracked.
In the meantime, rumours that the bus had been hijacked made rounds on the media. Police were deployed on the highway from Mian Channu to Multan and on the road to DG Khan. The Khanewal, Multan and Dera Ghazi Khan police were put on high alert and the bus was finally stopped by the police in Katcha Khuh.
The driver, Gulzar, told Katcha Khuh police that no one had hijacked the bus and that the passengers were safe. He said some of the passengers had panicked after the windscreen had cracked but he had kept the bus moving. Khanewal DPO Jahanzeb Nazir Khan said that police had stopped the bus near Lahore Mor and taken Tanvir, who had sent the text, into custody. He was taken to the police station for investigation.
