New look police: 504 women constables complete training
IGP says recruitment of large number of women shows their trust in the police force.

The recruitment of a large number of educated women in the police force indicates their trust in the department’s commitment to uphold law and order in the province, Inspector General of Police Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera said on Monday.
He was addressing a ceremony held to mark the graduation of 504 women constables (seventh batch) following a 12-month training programme at the Police Training College, Chuhng.
The training included 10-month basic training and a two-month Elite Combat course. Topics covered in the training included computer operations, weapon handling, police rules and regulations, gender responsibility, and media handling.
He hoped greater representation of women in the force would encourage women complainants to approach the police without hesitation to seek redress for their grievances.
He called upon the graduates to collaborate with their male colleagues in making successful the police’s effort to defuse the designs of anti-state elements.
On the security of very important personalities and foreigners residing in the province, the IGP said that all possible efforts were being carried out to ensure their foolproof security.
Earlier, he distributed certificates and Rs5,000-Rs10,000 each among cash prizes among distinction holders and Rs2,000 each among best shooters.
Delivering the welcome address, Police Training College Commandant Fayyaz Ahmad Dev said the batch of women constables was the largest ever inducted in the history of the Punjab Police. He said graduates included a master of philosophy (MPhill), 38 masters of arts (MA), 237 bachelors of arts (BA) and a bachelor of law (LLB) degree holders and 193 high and 34 secondary school certificate holders.
He said unlike the six batches of women constables inducted in the force earlier, the company, platoon and parade commanders in the current batch too were women.
Among the 504 graduates, 110 belong to Faisalabad, 108 to Lahore, 50 to Gujranwala, 40 to Sheikhupura, 40 to Muzaffargarh, 28 to Bahawalpur, 25 to Rawalpindi, 25 to Sargodha, 20 to Rahim Yar Khan, 14 to Jhelum, 11 to Attock, 10 to Mianwali, seven to Rajanpur, four to Dera Ghazi Khan, three to Jhang, two each to Multan and Sialkot and one each to Kasur, Gujrat and Chakwal districts.
Addl IGP (Welfare and Finance) Sohail Khan, Addl IGP (Training) Capt (retd) Usman Khattak, Addl IGP (Operations) Capt (retd) Arif Nawaz, Addl IGP (PHP) Javaid Islam, Addl IGP (Traffic) Rai Altaf Hussain, DIG (Headquarters) Farooq Mazhar, DIG (Training) Saad Akhter Bherwana, DIG (Research and Development) Ghulam Mehmood Dogar, DIG (Investigation) Ghulam Rasool Zahid, DIG (Establishment) Nawaz Warraich and DIG (PHP) Salman Chaudhry were also present at the occasion.
