Balochistan home minister says acts of terrorism have spiked in province following Economic Corridor pact with China

Police have arrested three men involved in the Khalid and PAF airbase attacks among other acts of terrorism, Balochistan Home Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti disclosed on Monday.

“Police are making efforts to control targetted killings in coordination with intelligence agencies,” said Bugti said while addressing a press conference at the CCPO office in Quetta.

Among those arrested is Ali Gul alias Ubaida Pathan, who belongs to Kohlu and carried a head money of Rs1 million, whereas Rehman Wali alias Rehman from Waziristan had a bounty of Rs0.5 million on him. Another accused, who carried a head money of Rs1.5 million and wanted in nine cases, was also arrested.

"He [Rehman Wali] was involved in attacks on Khalid Airbase, and PAF Airbase attacks and cases against him were lodged at Airport police station and Cantt police station in Quetta," said Bugti.


The third suspect was Zafarullah alias Muzafar Jan,who was wanted in four murder cases, he added. The home minister said police were making efforts and using its resources to eradicate terrorism in Quetta.

“Police carried out a search operation in Eastern Bypass area of the provincial capital and rounded up three suspects with links to a banned outfit,” said Bugti.

Spike in attacks after CPEC deal 

The provincial home minister said acts of terrorism had spiked following the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) pact, and all the institutions need to play their role to to prevent terrorist from conspiring against Pakistan and its economic prosperity.

He added that four police stations were established in Quetta to facilitate police, saying that as many as 2,050 CCTV cameras were being fixed in the city to control crime and the project was in its final phases.
