Vidya Balan talks about integrating ‘Hamari Adhuri Kahani’ in TV serials as means of promotion.

MUMBAI: Vishesh Films’ Hamari Adhuri Kahani is releasing next week but the cast and crew are not on a frenetic promotional spree. Actor Vidya Balan, who plays the female lead in the film, says it is intentional. “It is not possible to hard sell a film, such as Hamari Adhuri Kahani. We have intentionally done minimal promotions for this film. It is not that kind of a film where we can go and tell everyone that ‘Please go and watch it’. The tone of the film is extremely different,” said Vidya.

Present on the set of Ekta Kapoor’s TV show Itna Karo Na Mujhe Pyar to promote the film, she said: “We are doing integrations with TV fiction shows and popular serials where the themes coincide. That’s why we are not promoting [the film] on reality shows. We are welcoming the TV audience to our film with this integration.”

Hamari Adhuri Kahani, about unrequitted love, is directed by Mohit Suri and also stars Emraan Hashmi and Rajkumar Rao in lead roles. Actor Vidya Balan said on Friday she will strive to end the male-female disparity in Bollywood, especially as far as money is concerned.” We were always part of a male-dominated society. But now with films and TV, there seems to be a prominent shift and perhaps it is going to be a female-dominated society,” she said.

Vidya, who began her journey in showbiz with Ekta’s Hum Paanch, said she feels women are ruling the roost on TV. “Actresses on TV get paid extremely well and this has to be appreciated.”

Noting several female-oriented films, such as  Piku, Tanu Weds Manu Returns and NH 10, have done extremely well at the box-office which has proven that female actors are not mere eye-candy, Vidya said: “There is a huge pay disparity between males and females in Bollywood. But I’m sure with time, this gap will reduce. We will definitely fight to bridge this gap.”

Vidya says she loves to watch romantic TV shows. But due to her hectic schedule, she is not able to follow them. As per the track of the Sony Entertainment Television show, Ragini (Pallavi Kulkarni) is seen extremely worried for her daughter Nishii (Rhea Sharma) as she is unable to conceive. When Nishii comes to know that she can never be a mother, she tries to commit suicide by slitting her wrist. Ragini is heartbroken to see her daughter in this condition.

“I have seen the promos of Itna Karo Na Mujhe Pyar’and they are very intriguing. I love relationship-based shows, but unfortunately due to my schedule I don’t get the time to follow them regularly,” Vidya said in a statement.
