Thirteen industrial units sealed in four months, says DO

He said the department had constituted teams to investigate the complaints

The Environment Protection Department has sealed 13 industrial units, seven laboratories and four chemical stores and issued notices to 80 hospitals and 30 brick kilns in four months in Faisalabad, said DO Shaukat Hayat on Saturday. 


Talking to The Express Tribune, he said the department had received 53 complaints against industrial units over pollution. He said they had been emitting poisonous gases and dumping waste near water sources.

He said the department had constituted teams to investigate the complaints.

He said 13 industrial units were seized and nine cases were registered against their owners.

He said three other cases had been sent to the EPD’s headquarters for further action.

The DO said notices were issued to 80 hospitals and seven laboratories. He said 74 brick kilns were visited during this period. He said 30 brick kilns were visited and 12 cases were sent to department’s headquarters for further action.

He said teams had also checked 1,290 vehicles, of which 374 vehicles were challaned and 94 were impounded. He said fitness certificates of 80 vehicles were suspended.

He said 94 units of polythene bags factories were also visited and 25 units were challaned. He said four chemical stores were also seized.
