Two member bench formed to investigate police torture of students

New bench to be headed by LHC CJ, it will also hear petition challenging formation of board of governors.

Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry on Tuesday formed a two member bench to hear the case of police torture on students and teachers outside the Punjab Assembly.


Police beat students and teachers outside the assembly, when they were protesting against the formation of board of governors in educational institutions and the privatisation of the colleges.



Chief Justice Ijaz took suo motu notice of the incident. In yesterday's (Monday) hearings, the court directed for the registration of cases against police officials involved in beating students and teachers during the protest outside the Punjab assembly. In Tuesday's hearing, the high court formed a bench to further investigate the case.


The new bench will be headed by Justice Ijaz and will also hear the petition challenging the formation of board of governors. The hearing for both of the cases has been adjourned till December 20.
