Scores of activists of Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf on Saturday staged a protest demonstration against the government over what they called an anti-people federal budget.
The protest was led by Barrister Wasim Khan Badozai at Chungi 6.
Talking to the participants, he said the budget should be rejected because it had ignored agriculture and industrial sectors.
He said the budget had been made on IMF’s terms.
Badozai said the budget speech was full of lies and unrealistic figures.
“No incentives have been given to farmers and industrialists in the budget,” he said. He said the government had failed provide relief to the masses. He said the budget had disappointed the public and would exacerbate problems faced by the masses.
He said the government had made tall claims about cutting expenditures of the prime minister, the chief minister and the president but no such step was taken.
Badozai said indirect taxes had been not reduced. He said Finance Minister Ishaq Dar had promised to pay Rs160 billion refunds to the textile industry by coming September.
“He had made the same promise last year,” he added.
He said this budget was focusing on infrastructure and no steps had been taken to strengthen the agriculture and textile industry.
