Say No to Corruption: NAB collaborates for message dissemination
Banks to display anti-graft message on ATMs, cheques.
An awareness and prevention drive by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) is under way to highlight the ill effects of corruption and arrest offenders as per the law.
The drive has been undertaken on the directions of NAB Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry.
Under its proactive approach, NAB has been engaging different governmental and non-governmental organisations and civil society in its fight against corruption.
The bureau has proposed to the State Bank of Pakistan to display ‘Say No to Corruption’ message on all automated teller machines (ATM) and cheques across the country.
It also arranged a national seminar on World Anti-Corruption Day and a walk at Aiwan-e-Sadr Islamabad which was chaired and led by the President of Pakistan. In addition, it also organised seminars in collaboration with United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, Pakistan Institute of Legislative Development and Transparency and Water and Power Development Authority.
The bureau has also signed memorandum of understanding with Higher Education Commission for creating awareness amongst students of various universities. It has further collaborated with Pakistan Cricket Board, Pakistan Hockey Federation, Pakistan Television, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited, Islamabad Electric Supply Company, Lahore Electric Supply Company, Gujranwala Electric Power Company, Faisalabad Electric Supply Company, Pakistan Post, Islamabad Traffic Police, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, Pakistan International Airlines, Pakistan Film Censor Board, Motorway Police, Capital Development Authority and Islamabad Police to disseminate the message from their respective platforms.
NAB and Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) have agreed to create a joint task force comprising senior officers who will work on corruption cases referred by SECP to NAB.
Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination has also decided to print the message on all cigarette packs across the country. It is already being printed on electricity bills by IESCO from February 2015 and all government tenders issued for publication in newspapers in Balochistan and Gilgit-Baltistan. Standees with the message have also been displayed at entrance points of Islamabad Airport, major hotels and shopping malls.
