ISLAMABAD: The National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage Lok Virsa would organise reference concert on June 6 to pay tribute to the great master of classical singing Ustad Ghulam Hassan Shagan and Ustad Allah Rakha Khan. “In the last few months we have lost two great masters who have left a vacuum in our classical music. Ustad Ghulam Hassan Shagan, a great master of classical singing from Gwalior Gharana who left us in February this year and Ustad Allah Rakha Khan, the renowned Sarangi player who passed away a week ago, said an official of Lok Virsa. He said that Lok Virsa will pay tribute to both in its own unique way. “We are inviting Ustad Shagan’s son to play Rubab and a pupil of Ustad Allah Rakha Khan to play Sarangi,” he informed. He said that in addition “we will have a promising Sarangi artist Zohaib Hassan from Lahore to pay his tribute”. Artists including Taimur Khan, Zohaib Hasan would play Sarangi and Mazhar Shagan, Sarfaraz Hussain and Muhammad Ajmal on Tabla.
