Crying foul: ‘Sindh govt formed death squad to eliminate MQM'
Party claims 40-year-old Dehlavi, a worker of Baldia Town unit 117, was subjected to third-degree torture by police

The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) announced to observe Youm-e-Soug [Day of mourning] on Wednesday and Thursday in Karachi, following the death of its worker, Waseem Dehlavi, in police custody. The party claimed that the Sindh government had formed a death squad to eliminate it.
Addressing a press conference at Khursheed Begum Secretariat, MQM’s Rabita Committee member Kanwar Naveed said that since the operation started, 40 of their workers have been killed extra-judicially, 190 have been found murdered and over 50 were still missing. “No killers of our workers have been found. What kind of operation is this?” he questioned. “Our party’s headquarters was raided. Our workers are being arrested and killed.”
The party claimed that 40-year-old Dehlavi, a worker of Baldia Town unit 117, was subjected to third-degree torture by the police. According to the MQM, he and two of his brothers were picked up from his house in Baldia Town by police officers in plain clothes two days ago.
Naveed said they had demanded an operation to eliminate terrorists, but the operation had become politically motivated and had turned against them. He added that the judiciary was not providing any kind of relief. Meanwhile, the party has requested transporters and traders to suspend their activities and express solidarity with them.
