FAISALABAD: Scores of residents of Chak 215-RB Kakkoana on Sunday staged a protest demonstration against what they called was a false case against one of their neighbours.

The protesters gathered at Zila Council Chowk where they staged a sit-in in front of the secretariat of the district government.

Talking to newsmen, Khizar Hayat, one of the protesters said he had a property dispute with some men. He said they had broken into his house and had beaten him and his wife. He said they had also shaved off his wife’s hair.

He said he had filed a complaint of the incident at Saddar police station.

He said the men had then bribed policemen and registered a case against him and his wife.

“They want to pressure us into withdrawing our complaint,” he said.

The protesters gathered around the CPO’s office and blocked University Road for traffic.

They also chanted slogans against police for not taking action on Hayat’s complaint. They said the case against Hayat and his wife should be withdrawn. On being informed, the Kotwali DSP reached the scene and met the protesters.  He assured them that the matter would be investigated and action would be taken in accordance with the law.  He said if the case against Hayat and his wife was fabricated, it would be cancelled and action would be taken against police officials responsible.

The protesters dispersed peacefully on this assurance.
