ABBOTABAD:

Three people, including a newly-elected general councillor, were killed while an ASI and a constable were critically wounded on Sunday. The vehicle they were travelling in fell in the river near Harno.

A police van fell off the bridge on River Daur on Sunday, according to law-enforcement officials and eyewitnesses.

Bagnotar police said a complaint had been received about the illegal detention of Rustam Khan, elected on a general councillor seat on May 30, by his rivals in Gal Dhok village. A police contingent was sent to rescue him. The police raided a house and rescued Khan.

The officers were taking Khan to the police station in their van with two locals, a retired inspector, Ilyas Khan, and Shabbir. The driver lost control of the van and it crashed through the bridge, into the river near Harno.
