LG polls: 197 arrested for election day clashes

CPO says at least seven people killed across province.

PESHAWAR: Over 190 people were arrested for their involvement in clashes during local government polls in different areas across the province on Saturday. According to a handout issued from the Central Police Office, around seven people were killed and 29 were injured in skirmishes between different rival factions.

In Peshawar district, police arrested 47 people and seized three AK-47s and seven pistols from their possession. Sixteen FIRs were registered against the accused.

Likewise in Bannu and Lakki Marwat, around 67 people were nabbed by the police and 55 FIRs were registered against the arrested individuals. Around 28 AK-47s, 32 pistols, eight rifles and shotguns were seized from them.



In Hangu, Karak and Kohat, 24 people were arrested for violating law and order at polling stations. Four AK-47s, seven pistols and two shotguns were seized from their possession.

At least 10 were arrested in Mardan whereas one person was detained in Swabi. Police found six AK-47s and eight shot guns in their possession.

On the other hand, in DI Khan and Charsadda, seven and 41 people were arrested, respectively. Police lodged 16 FIRs against them.

However, Malakand and Hazara reportedly remained peaceful throughout the
LG polls.
