PML-N MPA Rana Shamshad, son killed in Gujranwala

He was targeted by veiled gunmen on way back from his farmhouse in Kamoke

GUJRANWALA:
One of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)'s frontmen from Gujranwala Rana Shamshad was killed along with his son and aide in an apparent incident of targeted killing on Sunday.

The PML-N leader was targeted near Raja Bhaley by veiled gunmen travelling in a black car on his way back from his farmhouse in Kamoke, Gujranwala, Express News correspondent Hafiz Shahid Munir reported.

According to initial details, the deceased received as many as 10 bullets and died on the spot. His son Ahmed and aide Shakir got seriously injured, who later succumbed to their wounds.

Confirming the news, police said they were collecting further details of the incident, adding the attackers soon fled the scene after committing the crime.

It was also reported that about 30 police stations were alerted to trace the culprits and generate information about their whereabouts.


A large number of political workers belonging to the party reached the hospital to condole the death of the senior leader. Furthermore, commissioner Gujranwala and senior police officers also arrived at the medical facility soon after receiving the news.

Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Governor Punjab Rafique Rajwana condemned the incident.

Moreover, recently-reappointed Law Minister Rana Sanaullah said those responsible for the heinous act will be brought to justice.

The CM has also sought a report of the incident from the authorities concerned.

Shamshad was elected as member of the Punjab Assembly from the PP-100 constituency on a PML-N ticket. He served as minister for transport and belonged to a politically active family.
