K-P local govt polls: Your votes in pictures
There were many ups and downs in the interim
There has been a 21-month-long build-up to local government polls. When Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf came into power on May 13, 2013, it promised elections in 90 days.
There were many ups and downs in the interim. Voters were promised biometrics; delimitation had to be argued in court; till the very last minute, aspects of the Local Government Act 2013 were being questioned by the opposition; and women suffrage was fought for—somewhat unsuccessfully—yet again. However, come May 30, elections took place.
As it turns out, all this and the delay did not dampen spirits. Candidates have been busy electioneering since a month, shops have been making profits selling merchandise and residents have heard a fresh offering of promises.
Here is a snapshot of the day from various areas across the province.
Curiosity piqued yet again, voters ignored the blistering heat and made their way to polling booths, waited in long queues to elect a new set of representatives which promises a new devolution.
