Young talent: COAS honours gold medallist athlete

COAS appreciated the youngster for his dedication and sense of purpose

KARACHI: Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif congratulated Muhammad Afzal, the 17-year-old boy, who won the first ever gold medal for Pakistan in the Asian Junior Athletics Championship, held at Doha in the current month. According to a press release the COAS appreciated the youngster for his dedication and sense of purpose as he earned laurels for the entire nation and set an example for Pakistani youth. Muhammad Afzal is under training at Army School of Physical Training as part of “3rd Army Young Boys Scheme”. Army young boys’ scheme is a free initiative which seeks young talent (12 to 14-year-old) from across the country and trains around 100 boys each year in various sporting events. Besides sports training, the boys are also provided free education and hostel facilities with opportunity to get enrolled in army subsequently.
