Human trade: Jirga orders barter of minor girl to settle dispute
A jirga held in Allah Ditto Kobhar village within the limits of the Daharki police station in Ghotki ordered on Wednesday an alleged 'karo' to barter his minor daughter along with payment of fine to settle a dispute.
A landlord, Jam Waseem Khan Dahar, presided over the jirga which was attended by both the parties in question and a large number of villagers.
After hearing the versions of both the parties, the jirga declared Wazir Kobhar 'karo' with Bashiran, daughter of Rehzan Kobhar, and ordered him to pay Rs400,000 as fine and barter his 10-year-old daughter, Kaneeza, to settle the dispute. Wazir has refused to abide by the verdict of the jirga.
According to a source, Rehzan wanted to occupy two acres of agricultural land owned by Wazir.
He is alleged to have 'used' his widowed daughter, Bashiran, to usurp the land.
Meanwhile, Daharki-based journalists said that Jam Waseem Khan Dahar denied holding any such jirga.
