In court: SHC dismisses murder plea against Rangers personnel
Zeeshanuddin was shot dead while he was arguing with his estranged wife last year
KARACHI:
The Sindh High Court dismissed on Wednesday a plea seeking the registration of a murder case against Rangers personnel for the alleged extra-judicial killing of a man last year.
Zeeshanuddin was killed when Rangers personnel opened fire at him while he was arguing with his estranged wife near Nagan Chowrangi on February 28, 2014.
The police had initially registered the case against Rangers personnel Noor Rehman under Section 319 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), which related to punishment for unintentional murder. The victim's sister, Tasneem Shahid, had subsequently gone to the high court to seek directions for the police to register the case under Section 302 of the PPC instead, arguing that it was a case of premeditated murder.
The petitioner claimed that her brother's wife, Shafiya, and Rehman had hatched a conspiracy to kill Zeeshan. Shafiya, therefore, staged an argument with the deceased during which Rehman interfered and shot him dead, she contended. Shahid pleaded the court order the investigation officer to include Section 302 of the PPC and submit a charge-sheet against the accused in the trial court.
During Wednesday's hearing, however, Shafiya's lawyer vehemently opposed the plea, contending that the trial court had already dismissed a similar plea by the petitioner since no evidence of conspiracy had been found during the investigation.
After hearing the arguments from both the sides, Justice Farooq Shah, who was heading the bench, dismissed the plea.
