KARACHI: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) sentenced on Wednesday three members of a Lyari-based gang to life imprisonment after convicting them of attacking a police station and killing a law enforcer.

Riaz Ahmed, Abdul Shakoor and Abdul Sattar were found guilty of storming Malir City police station with firearms and bombs in September 2013.

According to the prosecution, they, along with more than a dozen absconding accomplices, attacked the police station with an intention to kill law enforcers. They hurled hand grenades and fired at the policemen as a result of which, a constable, Tanvir Ali, was killed while another was injured. A mobile van parked outside was also damaged in the firing.

After scrutinising the evidences, ATC-IV judge Anandram D Sairani sent the suspects to 25 years in prison and also ordered forfeiture of their property under the Anti-Terrorism Act. The suspects were also awarded additional imprisonment of 15 years for attacking the police and attempting murder.
