Such is the uncertainty, according to one of his lawyers, that the former captain has failed to formulate the reply to the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) letter in which the spot-fixing charges were levelled against him, the deadline being December 14.
After appointing Khalid Ranjha and Aftab Gul, who represented the batsman in Dubai at the hearing against his provisional suspension, Salman has appointed or sought advice from various other lawyers including Aitzaz Ahsan, Shahid Saeed, India-based lawyer Yasin Patel and a British legal firm ahead of his hearing that takes place in Doha from January 6.
“There are too many lawyers involved in Salman’s case and that is creating more confusion,” one of Salman’s lawyers told The Express Tribune. “The panel has even not formulated their reply to the charges levelled against him and is yet to prepare a plan to fight his case. The difference of opinions among the lawyers is only adding confusion for him.”
He added that the panel has not been able to sit down in one place to devise a strategy while who will accompany Salman during the hearing is also yet to be ascertained.
“It’s a messy situation when it comes to his preparation,” he said. “Also, the decision to lodge a protest against Haroon Lorgat’s comments has not been taken yet.”
