Promoting literacy: ‘Exempt private schools from taxation’

LAHORE:

The government should exempt private schools from taxation, All Pakistan Private Schools Management Association president Adeeb Jawedani said on Monday.

“Instead of encouraging the private sector to promote education, the government has imposed heavy taxes on them.”

“Around 30,000 private schools have shut down because of these taxes. If the government wants to promote education in the country, it needs to support private educational institutes,” he said.

He urged the government to allocate 5 per cent of the GDP for education.

“Currently, the government is allocating just 4 per cent of the budget for education. This is the main reason why we are behind other nations in the field of education. The federal and provincial governments should invest in education sector, instead of buying vehicles for parliamentarians,” he said.
