FAISALABAD:
Police on Sunday claimed to have shot dead a man who had killed a constable in Nawan Lahore area late on Saturday night.
Gojra DSP Atif Imran told The Express Tribune that the Nawan Lahore police had signalled a man riding a motorbike to stop at a picket late on Saturday night. He said he pulled out a gun and shot at the policemen.
The DSP said Constable Muhammad Naeem was injured and was rushed to Faisalabad Allied Hospital where he later died. He said the suspect managed to flee.
The DSP said Nawan Lahore SHO Ghulam Rasool led a team on a raid to arrest the suspect. He said he was cornered a few blocks from the picket. He said when the SHO told him to surrender, the man again shot at the police. He said when police shot back, the man died on the spot. He said he was later identified as Ali Raza, a resident of Pensara Road in Gojra. He said he had apparently gone to Nawan Lahore to see his sister and her in-laws.
