PESHAWAR:
Residents of Mashogagar union council (UC) have appreciated the Integrated Social Services Programme (ISSP), a local non-governmental organisation, for fixing four government-run schools in the area.

This was stated in a press release issued by the organisation on Sunday. According to the communiqué, since providing better facilities to students was one of ISSP’s objectives, the NGO selected four schools – two for girls and two for boys – that needed to be rehabilitated.

The four schools, Government High School Mashogagar; Government Girls Primary School Balarzai; Government Primary School Balarzai; Government Girls Middle School Mashogagar, were then white-washed and equipped with new benches for students, tables, chairs, electric water coolers and dustbins.

A veranda was also constructed at Government Girls Primary School Balarzai which can be turned into two classrooms, the press release added. Similarly, in Government High School for Boys Mashogagar two toilets as well as water tanks were also constructed.

Local elders and the management of the schools appreciated ISSP’s efforts and expressed hope that more such activities would be carried out in the future, the press release stated. It shared that elders believed children would start taking an interest in going to school if basic facilities were provided.

The NGO also held sessions at these schools to create awareness among students about maintaining personal hygiene as well as keeping their environment clean.

According to the press release, the UC’s residents demanded more schools be constructed in the area keeping in mind the growing population so that children have access to education.

They also demanded solar panels be installed at schools as students were suffering because of prolonged outages.
