Crackdowns: 1,358 proclaimed offenders arrested across in K-P

At least 26 others fled the country, including women

At least 1,358 proclaimed offenders have been arrested in various crackdowns in the province over the last month, stated a handout issued from Central Police Office on Saturday.

The decision to conduct search and sweeps was taken at a meeting chaired by IGP Nasir Khan Durrani at a meeting recently.

During the meeting, Additional IG (Investigation) Muhammad Ali Baba Khel informed participants a large number of POs wanted in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa belonged to Khyber Agency – at least 2,356 hailed from the tribal belt.

Similarly, he said 1,072 POs were Afghan refugees who are wanted by the police for various cases. Moreover, Baba Khel said around 1,376 POs wanted in K-P belong to other parts of the country.

Baba Khel also said that at least 26 POs have escaped to other countries and 2% of them were women.


Kohat police had arrested 166 POs while 150 POs were nabbed from Bannu, Charsadda and Mardan each over the last month. More crackdowns are likely to continue in the province in the future.

Recent sweeps

On May 19, Hangu city police arrested a POs during a raid on a house in Karmaywal Kalay. He was wanted in multiple cases of terrorism and anti-state activities.

Last month, police officials from Bannu, Hangu and Swabi arrested almost 200 POs and confiscated 46 kilogrammes of hashish and fined 8,598 vehicle drivers.
