Imran continues his good run of form with another victory.
KARACHI:
Two of the three Pakistan cueists, Imran Shahzad and Mohammad Sajjad, progressed to the third round of the IBSF World Amateur Snooker Championship while Sohail Shahzad suffered a setback.
Imran defeated Bobby Cruickshanks 4-2 to continue his good run in the tournament. The Pakistan number one was beaten in the first two frames 62-18, 103-1 before he hit back to claim the next frame 66-13. Imran found his rhythm and claimed the next three frames 91-1, 69-63, 74-13 to confirm his place in the last-32.
Sajjad struggles to win
Meanwhile, Sajjad struggled before prevailing over Garry Gillard 4-3. The Asian number two cueist suffered as Gillard took a 3-0 lead clinching the frames 63-23, 54-37, 63-28. However, Sajjad, who has had a habit of performing when the chips are down, won a close fourth frame 66-57 and did not look back. Sajjad won the next frame 109-2 before hitting his second century break of the tournament as he clinched the next 131-1.
Sohail hit hard
Sohail fought hard but lost 4-3 against Egypt’s Maged Shafik 4-3. The Pakistan number two recovered from a 1-0 deficit to clinch the second frame 120-1. However, the Egyptian won the next 79-25 before Sohail comfortably won the next frame 132-0. Shafik secured the fifth frame 61-49 before Sohail clinched the next 129-0, only to lose the deciding frame 67-41.
All hope was not lost for Sohail as he has a chance to progress to the last-32 after today’s match for the wild card entries.
