Corruption: Private consultants taken to task

Resident engineer Mohammad Saleem had allegedly acquired “illegal” assets worth Rs15.09 million.

The Anti-Corruption Establishment met over cases against private companies providing the services of consultant engineers to government and autonomous bodies.

The board included the directors of the Federal Investigation Agency, Awareness and Prevention, Financial Crimes Investigation Wing and Operations as well as a member of the National Accountability Bureau.


They approved cases against supervision staff, including seven resident engineers and five site surveyors accused of charging huge amounts in consultation fees to contractors and departments with the help of certain government officers. Resident engineer Mohammad Saleem had allegedly acquired “illegal” assets worth Rs15.09 million. The assets are currently valued at Rs75 million. Fiaz Munshi was accused of accumulating assets worth Rs75.31 million. The assets are currently valued at Rs148.94 million. The board approved a reference against Akhtar Ali, a resident engineer working on the Shershah bridge project, for accumulating assets worth Rs28.668 million. The board ended an inquiry against Abdul Manan due to “a lack of tangible prosecutable evidence”.
