ANF recruitment exam: Over 2,000 mobile phones stolen
At least 36 applicants beat up the canteen owner after not being returned their phones and filed an application
ISLAMABAD:
Over two thousand mobile phones, most of them smartphones, were stolen from the Pakistan Sports Complex (PSC) where thousands of applicants were giving tests conducted by the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) for the posts of constables, said a police officer.
The official said at least 6,000 applicants from across the Punjab were giving tests at the sports complex. As is normal procedure with all exams, ANF did not allow the applicants to bring their mobile phones into the examination hall.
A canteen owner at the complex asked the applicants to deposit their mobile phones with him and charged Rs50 to Rs100 from each candidate. The police said after the exam when thousands of applicants came outside to get their mobile phones back, the canteen owner failed to accommodate such a large number of applicants at once and a ‘mad rush’ ensued.
As a result, some of the applicants took advantage of the influx of people and stole the expensive mobile phones.
Some applicants who had come from remote areas of the province ditched their own ‘low-cost’ phones and went home with several Iphones and Samsung devices, said the investigation officer of the case. At least 36 applicants beat up the canteen owner after not being returned their phones and filed an application at the Aabpara Police Station.
Police arrested three people and registered a case under Section 406 (punishment for criminal breach of trust) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
ANF is conducting test for the post of constables, assistant sub-inspectors and sub-inspector.
