On duty: Police constable shot dead

A police constable was gunned down by unidentified persons in Mingora, Swat on Tuesday morning. District Police Officer Salim Marwat told journalists constable Ihsanullah was on duty at Taj Chowk in the city when two armed persons opened fired on him.
Ihsanullah was unable to save himself and sustained injuries. However, the assailants managed to flee the site unchallanged.
The constable was rushed to Saidu Sharif Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Later, security forces reached the area for a search operation but no arrests were made till this report was filed.
Target killings and violence are becoming more frequent in Swat. The district was once under control of a banned outfit; two military operations were launched to wrest back writ of the state.
In the last four months, four cases of target killings were reported from Qambar and one from Charbagh. The cases reported from Qambar included the killing of a Pakistan Peoples Party leader and his brother. However, higher authorities claim security conditions are improving.
