KARACHI: Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid MPA Sheheryar Mahar has appealed to the prime minister to form a committee headed by Pakistan Peoples Party Senator Islamuddin Sheikh - who has been voted from Sukkur.

Addressing a press conference at the Karachi Press Club on Saturday, Mahar distanced himself from the attack on Institute of Business Administration, Sukkur, registrar Zahid Hussain Khand and condemned the incident.

Khand was attacked on Wednesday morning at Airport Road, Sukkur, near the IBA campus by unidentified assailants who intercepted him and shot him in his legs. He was admitted to Aga Khan University Hospital, Karachi.

IBA Sukkur director Nisar Siddiqui blames Sheheryar Mahar for the incident as he claims Mahar wants to take over land that belongs to the IBA. “I have no link with that controversial plot or the firing incident,” said Mahar, adding that he was representing Pakistan for the American Council of Young Political Leaders in the United States when he was implicated in the “false” case.

“On December 8, when I was in the US, I heard about the attack on the IBA registrar and in my absence, my political rivals tied the issue with us.”

“The IBA director is more active as a political party activist than as a government employee and openly supports Federal Minister Khursheed Shah and Anwar Mahar,” he added.

Mahar said that he has always respected educational institutions and IBA is one the prestigious institutions in the country. He offered to provide support to the IBA and remove hurdles from their path.
