Stance: Awan says PPP to resist privatisation
Awan says the students and teachers are not alone anymore, as the PPP backs them now.
Federal Minister for Law Dr Babar Awan said on Saturday that the Pakistan Peoples Party would not allow the privatisation of public colleges in Punjab. He said that the PPP would extend full support to teachers and students in their movement against the formation of autonomous boards of governors in schools and colleges.
He was addressing a press conference at the residence of Haji Azizur Rehman Chan on Saturday.
Several leaders of teachers’ and students’ unions were present on the occasion.
Awan said police officials involved in beating of students and teachers protesting in front of the Punjab Assembly should be prosecuted. He also suggested the provincial government to hold student unions elections and offered his ministry’s assistance in case it was needed.
Awan accused the provincial government of launching Ashiana Housing Scheme for low-income people to benefit five property dealers. He vowed to disclose their names very soon.
