FAISALABAD:

Two children were killed and four others were injured when the gate of a park fell on them in Factory Area on Monday.

The Factory Area SHO told The Express Tribune that 7-year-old Tehreem and five year-old Rabail, daughters of Muhammad Asif, an employee of the Anti-Corruption Department, were playing with their four-year-old brother Hadi and some other children in the park in Sir Syed Town when the gate fell on them.

He said the children were taken to a hospital but Tehreem and Rabail died on the way. He said four-year-old Umaima, five-year-old Zainab, four-year-old Abdul Ahad and Hadi were in a critical condition.

Farooqiya Park was built in E-Block, Sir Syed Town, at a cost of Rs3.5 million. Former law minister Rana Sanaullah Khan had inaugurated it last month.

Abdul Kareem, a witness, said passers-by had pulled out the children from under the gate before Rescue 1122 could arrive.

Rana Sanaullah took notice of the incident and ordered a probe into the matter.

In a statement, the former law minister said he was shocked and saddened by the news.

He directed the Faisalabad DCO to form a team to probe the incident.

He said the DCO should check all parks in the city. He also directed the DCO to install a new gate at the park and construct a wall around it.
