KARACHI:

Lawyers will boycott legal proceedings across the province today in protest of the judicial commission's decision to not confirm two additional judges of the Sindh High Court (SHC) without consulting the legal fraternity.

Addressing a press conference, the Sindh Bar Council's (SBC) vice-chairperson, Ziaul Hassan Lanjhar, said that a meeting of the judicial commission under the chair of Chief Justice Nasirul Mulk was held on May 11 to consider the confirmation or extension of four additional judges.

He said that the commission had dropped the names of two additional judges, justices Amir Raza Naqvi and Shahab Sarki, "without representation of members of the legal fraternity".

Lanjhar explained that the tenure of the SBC's representative in the commission had expired, adding that the judicial commission decided the matter without waiting for the appointment of the new representative.
