KARACHI:
The former home minister, Dr Zulfiqar Mirza, was granted protective bail for three days by the Sindh High Court (SHC) in yet another case regarding the attack on Darakhshan police station in Karachi.

A bench, headed by Justice Naimatullah Phulpoto, granted him bail against a surety of Rs100,000 with directions to surrender before the relevant anti-terrorism court within three days. The estranged leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party had moved the high court after the registration of fresh criminal case against him — this time regarding an attack on Darakhshan police station.

His lawyer, Ashraf Samon, said the police had booked his client in an FIR lodged under the Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997 on the allegations of having besieged and vandalised at the Darakhshan police station during his visit to record his statement.

"So far, 13 criminal cases have been made against the petitioner," Samon stated. "My client is being politically victimised," he added. In his plea, Mirza had pleaded the court grant him protective bail, as he wanted to surrender before the trial court but could not due to fear of being arrested by the police. The bench granted him protective bail for three days in sum of Rs100,000 with directions to surrender before the trial court within three days.

So far, the former home minister has obtained bail in multiple criminal cases, what he believes, are being made against him at the behest of Pakistan Peoples Party co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari and his sister MNA Faryal Talpur for highlighting their corruption. He had also sought court directions for the police to given him and his family protection as they face threats to their lives.
