Virat Kohli gets 'unofficial' BCCI warning for mid-match date with Anushka
Players are not allowed to meet wives and girlfriends until a match is officially over
The BCCI has reportedly issued an 'unofficial' warning to Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli for meeting girlfriend Anushka Sharma during the rain delay in RCB's IPL match against Delhi Daredevils on Sunday.
India Today reports that Kohli received an 'informal warning' for breaching the rules in Bengaluru as images of his meeting with Anushka flashed on the TV and went viral on social media.
The Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) doesn't permit players to meet girlfriends and wives while a game is on.
IPL chairman Rajiv Shukla told India Today, "We shouldn't blow the thing out of proportion but I have spoken to him and told him he shouldn't speak to anyone when technically the match is still on."
He added, "At the Chinnaswamy Stadium, there is only a partition between the VIP enclosure and the players area and hence he may have spoken. If the ACSU officials inform us, we will definitely warn him but I have already informally spoken to him and told him not to do this."
Virat's on-field performance has been the subject of intense media scrutiny ever since he started dating Anushka Sharma. The actress accompanied her boyfriend on a tour of England in 2014, causing her to be blamed for Virat's poor performance.
The BCCI instituted a ban on wives and girlfriends (WAGs) accompanying the players on the World Cup 2015, but relaxed the ban when India reached the semi-final. Anushka travelled from India to cheer on her beau, but Virat managed to score only a single run. India lost the match and exited the World Cup.
Anushka's presence was taken to be a bad omen and fans flocked to Twitter to slam the actress. Undeterred by the criticism, Anushka and Virat returned to Mumbai hand in hand.
