The Rawalpindi Civil Defence Department has issued notices to several high-rise buildings for violating fire safety guidelines.
The buildings that were served notices included Haji Manzoor Plaza, Chaudary Murad Plaza, Fazle Haq Dera, Khyber Shanwari Restaurant, Namak Mandi and Kabul Restaurant.
These buildings lacked basic firefighting equipment, smoke alarms and emergency exits, said an official. The department’s deputy district officer Sanjeeda Khanum inspected several plazas earlier this week and said the department had launched a survey to identify buildings violating fire safety guidelines.
The department has directed the management to install the equipment and mark emergency exits at the earliest to prevent any incident of fire.
