HYDERABAD:

The Sindh Chamber of Agriculture (SCA) has asked the provincial government to conduct an inquiry against food officials suspended over alleged corruption in wheat procurement.

At a meeting on Saturday, the farmers also blamed the government for failing to start the procurement of the additional 200,000 tons of wheat. Earlier this month, the government had increased its purchasing target from 900,000 tons to 1.1 million tons at the official rate of Rs1,350 per maund. However, the process has been marred by accusations of embezzlement and corruption.

At least three district food controllers and 18 food inspectors were suspended over charges of corruption, according to SCA general secretary Nabi Bux Sathio. The meeting demanded the government to make public the inquiry process and its findings against the officials.
