Karachi operation to continue indiscriminately: Corps commander

Corps Commander warns that all terror groups operating in the city will now be dealt with iron hands

KARACHI: Days after a deadly attack on a bus of the Ismaili community that left at least 45 people dead and eight others injured, Karachi Corps Commander Lt. General Naveed Mukhtar said that the crackdown on militants in the megalopolis will continue indiscriminately till it reaches its logical conclusion, Express News reported.

Addressing a seminar in Karachi on Saturday, Lt Gen Mukhtar said that the city was stricken with criminal elements, ranging from smugglers to terrorist organisations while political and administrative deficiencies had exacerbated the situation.

He added that security agencies were trying to purge the megalopolis of sectarianism, targeted killings, extortion and kidnappings.

“The operation will meet its logical conclusion and terrorism will be eradicated in all its forms and manifestations to ensure lasting peace and calm.”

The Corps Commander urged upon political parties to eliminate their 'militant wings', adding that terrorists and their facilitators will now be dealt with iron hands.

Acknowledging that Karachi Port enables 80 per cent of trade in the country, Mukhtar said terrorists had made the city their target, adding that extraordinary measures were needed to overcome the situation.

He maintained that the operation has produced good results and emphasised that 'time is strife to eliminate sectarianism.

Have you not seen the dangers the city is undergoing for lack of proper admin and no Local Government? Have you not seen the dangers to your citizens' lives through these useless politicians? Both PPP, PMLN, and the religious-political parties are responsible for the chaos that is Karachi and Pakistan. Salams

salman - sk | 9 years ago | Reply Empty and hollow promises and claims to tackle the terrorists are now so old that Pakistan's public hardly pays attention to it. The more significant aspect is that when a disease is left untreated for a long time it becomes incurable and ultimately kills the body. Pakistan's public, more than its' government, should ponder over the existential threat the country is facing. Those who are sitting in the safe-havens of secured areas and whose children are getting educated in Oxford, Cambridge, and Harvard have become good at issuing statements of condemnation and can hardly be expected to do anything meaningful to eliminate the scourge of terrorism that they themselves have instituted.

No single terrorist of banned organisation is hanged, The criminals who are being hanged are murderers who were sentenced by civil courts. They have forced the nation to establish military courts. Karachi is in their hands. They have their own courts.What else they want now? Just distribution of money? Authority to govern? There are mafias in the country? This gentle man has been working in ISI, does he not expect it? Problem is that some thing else. If Pakistan is to take Kashmir, civilians should strive there. Where was this brave general when OBL was discovered? Whether these hawks knew about that or not, they are being exposed know. General's speech is nothing more than a proactive drama to attack on civilian setup. Question is that where did the attackers vanish despite monitoring every inch of Karachi by them? Banned organisations are protecting and giving shelter to these terrorists and they are not being punished by military courts. If military courts start punishing criminals they will theoretically be fired back. General, be brave to arrest real criminals of outfits and encourage others to decide their fate in military courts. You know very well and nation too, why was Raza Rabani shedding tears when Parliament empowered you disgracing judiciary?
