KARACHI:

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the Sindh Assembly has revealed that the Karachi Master Plan Authority (KMPA) is being run without the Institution Act and Board of Governors (BOG). Director General (DG) Audit has declared the Master Plan Authority (MPA) illegal. PAC Chairman Nisar Ahmad Khuhro has directed to prepare the Authority's Act and form the Board of Governors in order to make the Authority functional.

The meeting of the PAC was held on Thursday under the chairmanship of Chairman Khuhro in the committee room of the assembly. In the meeting, the audit paras of KMPA for the year 2019 and 2020 were reviewed.

It was revealed in the meeting that the MPA was established in 2019 to create a master plan for Karachi as a megacity. However, despite the passage of five years, neither any Act of Master Plan Authority has been made, nor has the Board of Governors been formed.

DG Audit Sindh raised objection and said without any Act and Board of Governors, the Authority is illegal and cannot operate as an autonomous body. Additional Chief Secretary of Local Government Department said that this institution is working under SBCA until the MPA Act is framed.
