RAWALPINDI:
A Rawalpindi police assistant sub-inspector was suspended on Friday for allegedly ‘misbehaving’ with a woman during a raid on her house.

ASI Tahir Iqbal and other New Town police officials allegedly misbehaved and directed abusive language at Sadaf Tauqeer, finance secretary of the Rawalpindi Girls’ Hostel Association, during a raid at her house after she was implicated in an FIR by one Fareeha, who also runs a girls hostel in Rawalpindi.

Tauqeer, in her written complaint to Rawalpindi City Police Officer (CPO) Israr Ahmad Abbasi, said that the police, on the basis of a fabricated FIR, raided her house at 4am, misbehaved with her and used abusive language against her in front of her neighbours.

While entertaining the complainant’s application, the top cop suspended the ASI and also directed the Saddar SP to conduct an inquiry into her claim.

New Town SHO Ijaz Shah was also part of the raiding team, said a police official, while requesting anonymity.

Tauqeer said that one of her association’s members, Fazal Rabi, had purchased a girl hostel from Fareeha, but Fareeha refused to turn over possession of the hostel after it had been paid for.

Tauqeer claims that when she visited the hostel to request Fareeha hand over possession, Fareeha went to the New Town police and registered a fake case against her.

“The way the police conducted the raid at my house was terrible and the language they used in front of my neighbours was embarrassing,” she said, adding that the police even impounded her car.

The CPO told The Express Tribune that he has ordered an urgent inquiry.

“I will not spare the police officials if they are found guilty,” he said.

On the other hand, Fareeha said that she had sold her hostel to Rabi under an agreement that possession will only be given once girls residing in the hostel were done with their exams.

Fareeha alleged that Tauqeer and two colleagues beat her and snatched her purse, containing Rs5,000.
