Renowned haematologists, lawyers, journalists, jurists, health specialists and other members of the civil society criticised the growing number of thalassaemia cases in the country and demanded a mandatory premarital test for the disease and the implementation of a thalassaemia law.
A press release said the government should establish a network of screening centres all over Pakistan and seriously adopt measures to implement strategies to reduce Thalassaemia in order for a Thalassaemia free Pakistan to be achieved.

In a seminar titled ‘Modern Era of Thalassaemia Prevention and Management and Role of Civil Society, Media in Thalassaemia Prevention’ organised by the Omair Sana Foundation at Bahria Auditorium on Wednesday, they said that a national thalassaemia registry and central blood bank should be established.
