SUKKUR: The former incharge of Shikarpur CIA, DSP Abdul Qadir Chandio, who was picked up by Rangers personnel 10 days ago, has been released after interrogation. The officer was allegedly detained over his alleged links with outlaws.

According to sources, the officer's phone number was found in the phones of suspects arrested by the Rangers during raids in different areas of Khanpur taluka of Shikarpur, following a high-profile kidnapping from Karachi. DSP Abdul Qadir Chandio was returning to Shikarpur from Larkana around 10 days ago, when he was intercepted by the law enforcers, who took him into custody along with two of his personal guards and shifted them to Karachi.

The Rangers personnel had traced the phone calls made by the kidnappers, based on which they had arrested some suspects. While going through the data on their phones, the law enforcers had found the number of DSP Chandio. The suspects had later confessed that the officer was in touch with them.

Previous cases

On June 30 last year, three women, including Umeedan Narejo [Muskan Shaikh had gone missing from Darul Aman, Larkana, and it was suspected that DSP Chandio was behind the kidnapping.

During his posting in Larkana, the officer had killed a notorious criminal, Murad Narejo, who carried a head money of Rs1.5 million. Residents had claimed the suspect was killed in a fake encounter but the officer had denied these charges.

Umeedan Narejo was the wife of another wanted criminal, Anwar Narejo — a younger brother of Murad Narejo. To compensate his murder, the officer had facilitated Anwar Narejo by getting his wife out of Darul Aman. The officer had again denied this charge.

For his part, Shikarpur SSP Saqib Ismail Memon told The Express Tribune that DSP Chandio was not arrested by the Rangers and that they had only called him for some investigations.

When contacted, DSP Chandio told another story. He claimed he was not arrested by the Rangers. Rather they had sought his help in some matter which he had provided them.
