A glimpse into the world of Pakistani powerhouses

At an event.

What sparked your interest in the fashion industry?

I have been into fashion ever since I was a child. My aim was to create glamour and make women feel confident about themselves.

What is the most important thing to keep in mind before designing?

I think that would be its development into a practical garment. Design has no boundaries but practicality does.

How has the Pakistani fashion industry changed over the past few years?

The industry has evolved immensely. The business has grown, retail has picked up and there are more and more designers showcasing on a retail level, which is great!

What do you have to say about these new designers?

New talent is great to see. New ideas and fresh innovations are a good thing and keep everyone in check. Pakistan has such remarkable talent! The industry will grow very fast, I am sure of it. Our work is already talked about worldwide.

Name one celebrity you would like to work with in the near future and why?

I love Olivia Palermo’s look. She is elegant, chic and simply beautiful! She is my dream Maheen Karim woman!

How does your brand differ from others in the market?

As a brand, we pride ourselves on innovative silhouettes and quality. I much prefer to play with shapes and develop a fresher look. However, I never compromise on quality and think that is why my clients remain faithful. They are never disappointed.

How do you convert your inspiration into reality?

One keeps developing an idea and it is then modified into a garment. Sometimes that’s easy and other times, it is close to impossible, but that’s just the creative process.

What constitutes a good fashion show?

I believe a cohesive collection that stands out and catches the eye is necessary. Theatrical antics aren’t needed. Wearable glamorous pieces should suffice.

One material for all season?

I love silk and georgette.

Any advice for aspiring female designers?

I would say never give up. The creative process in the real world is frustrating but stay true to your ideas and success will follow.
