‘No room for corrupt judges’
LHCBA and PbBC delegations call on the new chief justice.
LAHORE:
Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry, the new chief justice of the Lahore High Court, on Friday said that there was no room for corrupt and dishonest judges in the judiciary.
He said this while talking to a delegation of Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) and Punjab Bar Council (PbBC) representatives. He assured them that strict disciplinary action will be taken the concerned judge if such an allegation is proved against him.
Justice Ijaz asked the lawyers from LHCBA, PbBC and lawyers to point out corruption in subordinate judiciary, including sessions and civil judges, by sending proof of the allegations, if any, to the LHC office. Members of the LHCBA, led by its president Abdul Qadus, met the CJ in his chambers. The bar members also commended the CJ’s withdrawal of all cases against lawyers of the bar registered in the era of the former CJ, Khawaja Sharif. Qadus said that LHCBA had played a conciliatory role in the bar-bench episode and assured Justice Chaudhry that it would continue to do so. The delegation also assured him that the LHCBA will cooperate in the early disposal of cases in courts in the light of the national judicial policy.
The PbBC delegation was led by its vice chairman, Mumtaz Mustafa. Mumtaz said that sessions judges should keep in contact with the PbBC for better understanding of problems of the lawyers’ community. He also assured the new CJ of the council’s full cooperation.
