May 2007 carnage: Govt urged to probe lawyers’ killing

LAHORE:

The Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) and the Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) adopted a resolution on Tuesday demanding that the government probe the May 12, 2007, killing of lawyers in Karachi.

The resolution was adopted at a joint meeting of the two bars.

The resolution, adopted unanimously, called upon the Sindh Bar Council and the Singh High Court Bar Association to raise funds for the families of the lawyers killed during a movement for the reinstatement of independent judiciary. The participants of the meeting later offered fateha and paid tribute to the deceased lawyers.

They also boycotted court proceedings throughout the day as a gesture denouncing  action against the judiciary ordered by a military dictator. Black flags were hoisted at bar buildings throughout the province and lawyers were seen wearing black armbands as a sign of protest.
