ISLAMABAD:

Federal Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif on Tuesday assured Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s (KP) protesting lawmakers of resolving their issues within a week.

After negotiations with the protesting legislators who descended on the capital to stage a ‘dharna’ outside the Parliament, K-P Chief Minister Parvez Khattak termed the talks with the federal government a success, stating that he presented all the problems being faced by his government including electricity load-shedding.

The minister said steps were being taken to remove all the grievances of the provincial government and a couple of meetings had already been held in this regard.

He urged the K-P government to play its due role in eliminating ‘kunda culture’ in the province.

Addressing a joint press conference along with Khattak and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Sirajul Haq after the protest, the minister said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had already convened a meeting of all parliamentary leaders on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, which would pass through its original route in K-P, benefiting the people of the area.

Khattak thanked the Asif for his role, who also assured him to arrange a meeting with the finance and petroleum and natural resources ministers and officials of the Water and Power Development Authority on Friday to resolve their issues.

The JI chief appreciated the federal government for carrying out negotiations and hoped that all issues including ‘unfair’ load-shedding would be resolved before Ramazan.
