'American Idol' to end after season 15

LOS ANGELES:
The singing-based reality show American Idol which was immensely popular in the US will end its run after the fifteenth season. The final broadcast will be on January 2016, Fox announced.



Singers Jennifer Lopez, Harry Connick Jr. and Keith Urban will return as the season 15 judges, along with host Ryan Seacrest, reported variety.com.

The final season will air in January 2016.

While searching for the final American Idol superstar, the last season will also serve as a "celebratory event", paying tribute to 14 seasons of contestants, winners and fans.



American Idol, created by Simon Fuller, first debuted in 2002 with original judges Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson. Throughout its fourteen seasons, other A-list judges have included Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj, Steven Tyler, Kara DioGuardi and Ellen DeGeneres.
