LAHORE:

The United Nations Development Programme on Monday signed a letter of agreement with the Punjab Higher Education Commission to strengthen higher education and the commission.

A ceremony in this regard was held at the PHEC office at Arfa Software Technology Park. PHEC Chair Dr Nizamuddin chaired the event. UNDP Director Marc-André Franche was the guest of honour. “Through this collaboration, the UNDP will provide assistance to the PHEC in drafting, reviewing, and incorporating international best practices in higher education. It will also partner with the PHEC to organise an inter-provincial forum on higher education as part of the UNDP project on Strengthening Participatory Federalism and Decentralisation,” Nizamuddin said.

In his presentation, Nizamuddin highlighted key challenges facing the higher education sector and laid out the roadmap for achieving PHEC targets over the next three years. The UNDP country director appreciated the contribution of the PHEC towards strengthening the higher education sector in the Punjab. “We will use our network to  look for more opportunities to partner with the PHEC in future endeavours,” he said.
