ISLAMABAD:
The first consignment, comprising fish exports, departed Gwadar Port to Dubai on Monday.

The consignment was carrying 230 tons of fish from the city. The ship is expected to reach Dubai’s Jabal Ali Port from where Pakistani fish will be exported to the rest of the world, said a press release issued by the Ministry of Ports and Shipping.

Federal Minister for Ports and Shipping Kamran Michael said that the deep sea port was merely being used for the import of fertilisers and wheat. He has said that as many as 230 ships have imported fertilisers and wheat so far during the current year.

Michael said that next ship will depart on May 18 carrying another shipment of high quality fish.

The minister has stated that 2 million people will get their livelihood from this port after it is fully functional.  Michael said that local Baloch will be given priority for jobs and livelihood.

The federal minister stated that 2,281-acre land has been acquired for establishing a free zone and he invited the international community to invest since it is a tax free zone.

He added that the halal food industry will be set up at Gwadar, from where halal products will be transported to the rest of the world.
